Darren Chandler B.Ost.Med, (Hons) D.O
Darren is the founder of Spine Plus Bow and a partner in Spine Plus Clinics. He qualified as an Osteopath after a five year full time degree course, and was awarded the Student of the Year Award by HRH Princess Anne, in 2002. He is a full member of the British Osteopathic Association (BOA), British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) and is a state-registered osteopath with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Darren has a keen interest in clinical diagnostics and specialises in spinal, sports and work related injuries.
Describing himself as a perfectionist who’s dedicated to every patient, Darren excelled as a boy playing the piano, and played badminton for England. He became a personal trainer, with many celebrity clients.
Darren has a keen interest in other fields of medicine. He has spent many weeks shadowing orthopeadic surgeons in theatre, watching surgery on spines, knees and shoulders to aid his continual professional development. He is able to use the working relationships he has developed with some top consultants, to refer patients to the right specialists.
He has developed skills at reading MRI scans, and now works at Vista Diagnostics providing clinical assessments for patients self-referring for MRI scans. His patients often bring scans with them to initial consultations.
Since 2006 Darren has worked in a busy GP practice treating private and NHS funded patients. He runs tutorials for GPs on clinical testing for patients with lower back pain. Darren often gives talks to local groups, such as the Women’s Institute, gyms, and personal trainers. His network of medical contacts allowed Darren to set up the first ever National Back Pain Helpline. (www.nationalbackpainhelpline.co.uk) This has become popular with patients from all over the country calling for advice on back pain, injection therapy, and the latest surgical procedures.
Darren has lived in the East End for 36 years, and developed a busy spinal and sports injury clinic, treating both the local community and City-based clients. His ultimate goal is to open a centre of excellence in London for lower back pain, with everything under one roof: physical therapy, scans, injections, surgery etc. “It’s about what's right for each patient, we’d have a unique detailed treatment plan for each, saving NHS money and patients’ time.”
